It is no mean feat to focus on studies, especially when your exams are close at hand. The mind has a rather incorrigible tendency to wander off in all directions. Just when you sit down to study with your books, you remember all sorts of interesting things – your friend’s upcoming birthday, your pet’s vet visit, the special update of your favourite game or the trending song or the latest movie. Your mind wavers from one thought to another as if you are scrolling seamlessly through a series of reels that demand no more than a few seconds of your attention. The more you try to tame your mind, the more your focus falters.
So, what should you do when you open your book and feel bored? Just relax; seriously, just take a deep breath and relax. Deep breathing is an excellent technique to calm a restless mind as well as to overcome exam anxiety. In order to avoid the feeling of boredom while studying, you should chalk out a revision schedule and try to follow it sincerely. Ideally, you should take short breaks of ten to fifteen minutes after every hour of study. During these breaks, you could engage in any activity of your choice such as taking your pet out for a walk or calling up a friend or playing badminton or your favourite video game. They will help to refresh and reset your mind and you will be able to return to your studies with a renewed focus.
